Vauvan kanssa Etelä-Afrikkaan jouluksi / To South Africa for Christmas with a baby

Perheemme mies on kotoisin Etelä-Afrikasta.

Man of our family is South African. We have been visiting there normally once or twice a year (man even more often) to see family and friends. Last time we were there during March and April and it was so easy to say that we come back with the baby on December. But when baby was born it didn't feel so easy to travel with small baby. I was thinking it's so simple with babies that they are just eating and sleeping :). But our girl has her own rhythm and if some sleep is missing during the day then it's difficult in the evening. Nights she is sleeping nicely in the same bed with me. During the day she is sleeping in the prams outside or in cold entrance. During the afternoon sleep the prams should be moving all the time otherwise she will wake up. So I'm having some long walk every afternoon with her, but that's ok, good exercise for me. But because of all that sleeping and rhythm it was difficult to decide if we travel or not. Totally the travel is 24 hours from home to home, so it's long trip with small baby. But we decided that we try and I hope everything will go fine.

Our destination is Cape Town. We have family members there and more family is coming to have Christmas holiday there. All are waiting to see new baby, she is so welcome to the family. South Africans are so warm and kind people, taking care of each other. There the family is very important and people are spending lot of time with their families. And everytime you meet the family you have to braai, that's part of the culture. Heat the grill, have lot of food, wine and lot of talking.

So now we have book the flights. We fly at the beginning of the December and come back to Finland for New Year. It's awesome to see all the family and get some sunshine. I'm waiting a lot to travel, but also I'm little bit nervous how the travelling will go. But I think everything will go fine if I just stay calm and take care of baby's sleep.
